My name is Becky Gilliam. I live in Silverton, Oregon, and I have a background in linguistics, public policy, non-profit leadership, and community advocacy - experiences that deeply shape my commitment to inclusive, relationship-centered care.
My journey into birthwork began in 2020 when I had the special honor of supporting my sister through early labor and postpartum recovery. The following year, I became a mother myself and experienced a birth that was both challenging and deeply empowering. Those experiences transformed the way I understood support, autonomy, and the importance of feeling truly seen during the perinatal period. At the start of my own pregnancy journey, I didn't see myself in a lot of the resources and birth spaces I found. Much of what I initially encountered felt like a narrow vision of what pregnancy, birth, and parenting were "supposed" to look like. It wasn't until I centered my values, identity, and instincts that I was able to approach birth with greater confidence and connection. When it came time to meet my second baby, I now had the information, experience, and resources to fully pursue the birth experience I had always desired. Looking back, I now understand that I had that wisdom within me all along; I simply needed the support and space to trust it. That realization became a deeply transformative part of my journey and continues to shape the way I support other families today. While my own experiences called me into this work, my deepest sense of purpose comes from the families I have the honor of walking alongside during their unique journeys. Witnessing the strength, intuition, and resilience of birthing people and their loved ones continues to inspire and humble me every day. |
Since beginning my professional birth work in 2022, I have supported families through a wide range of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. I am certified through DONA International and the State of Oregon as a Traditional Health Worker. I am also an ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator and a Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator. I offer Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Classes to help families understand body balance, fetal positioning, and comfort in pregnancy and birth.
Through my experiences supporting families through the perinatal period, I have witnessed the resilience of the human body, the wisdom of birthing people and their babies, and the powerful connection that families can cultivate when met with support and resources. My goal as a birth doula is to provide personalized care and support to pregnant people as they navigate making choices that feel right to them and honoring their intentions as best as possible.
My role as a birth/parent/family advocate does not start or end at birth; I support individuals and families navigating pregnancy, loss, and postpartum. I am honored to join you at any point in this journey.
I offer birth doula services, childbirth education, and perinatal family support to folks in the Marion-Polk Region. I look forward to learning more about your birth intentions and supporting your positive birth experience!

Inclusive & Affirming Care My priority is making sure parents feel safe and supported during their birthing experience. I’m here to honor and serve you, your body, your beliefs, your choices, and your family. Every birthing person has a unique story and deserves a safe, empowered birth. Accordingly, I believe birth work should be tailored to a birthing person's identity and preferences, and I will do my very best to do that for you and your family. You are at the center of this work!
I am proud to work with single parents, Disabled folks, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and Queer/LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. I respect people of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, income levels, faiths, and beliefs. My promise to you: I will listen to you and strive to provide affirming and individualized care that empowers you to make birth decisions that feel right for you. |

Why "Empowered Birth"?Birthing people are at the center of birth work. They should be confident in trusting their own instincts, making decisions that feel right for them, and relying on a supportive care team.
Empowered Birth Care is a sole proprietorship built to support people on the path to their most authentic and positive birth experience. When we keep the focus on the birthing person, their priorities, their experiences, their values... they are more likely to make informed choices and ultimately have a more empowering birth experience. Keeping birthing people at the center is essential to having an empowered birth! |
