Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator
Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator
My name is Becky Gilliam and I am a Certified Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator, as well as a Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator (SpBCPE). I live in Silverton, Oregon, and I have a background in linguistics, public policy, and community advocacy work. My journey to becoming a birthworker began in 2020 when I had the special honor of accompanying my sister during her early labor and postpartum recovery. I became a mom the following year and had a challenging, but beautiful and positive birth experience.
At the start of my own birth journey, I didn't see myself in a lot of the resources and materials I found. I felt like I was being pushed into a certain mold of what pregnancy and birth were supposed to look like. When I finally did find my own voice and community in birth, I felt empowered to have the birth experience that I desired. I found that by keeping myself and my identity at the center, I was able to have a more intuitive and positive birth. This revelation marked the beginning of my path to inclusive and affirming birth work. |
I completed a DONA International Birth Doula Workshop with the Portland Doula Love Training Center in 2022. I'm now a certified birth doula with both DONA International and the State of Oregon as a Traditional Health Worker. I am also a ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator (ICCE). In 2024, I became a Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator and am now pleased to be offering Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Classes.
Through my experiences around birth, I have witnessed the power of mindfulness, the resilience of the human body, and the transformation that birth offers. My goal as a birth doula is to provide personalized care and support to pregnant people as they navigate making choices that feel right to them and honoring their birth intentions as best as possible.
I currently offer birth doula services to individuals and families in Silverton, Salem, and surrounding areas. I look forward to learning more about your birth intentions and supporting your positive birth experience!

Inclusive & Affirming CareMy priority is making sure parents feel safe and supported during their birthing experience. I’m here to honor and serve you, your body, your beliefs, your choices, and your family. Every birthing person has a unique story and deserves a safe, empowered birth. Accordingly, I believe birth work should be tailored to a birthing person's identity and preferences, and I will do my very best to do that for you and your family. You are at the center of this work!
I am proud to work with Disabled folks, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and Queer/LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. I respect people of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, income-levels, faiths, and beliefs. My promise to you: I will listen to you and strive to provide affirming and individualized care that empowers you to make birth decisions that feel right for you. |

Why "Empowered Birth"?Birthing people are at the center of birth work. They should be confident in trusting their own instincts, making decisions that feel right for them, and relying on a supportive care team.
Empowered Birth Care is a sole proprietorship built to support people on the path to their most authentic and positive birth experience. When we keep the focus on the birthing person, their priorities, their experiences, their values... they are more likely to make informed choices and ultimately have a more empowering birth experience. Keeping birthing people at the center is essential to having an empowered birth! |
