Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Group Class
with Empowered Birth Care & Silver Falls Family Support
This group class is taught by Becky Gilliam (Empowered Birth Care) and Bethany Griffin-Shetler (Silver Falls Family Support), experienced doulas, childbirth educators, and Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educators.
This is not a traditional birth class, but a very specific hands-on, whole body approach to preparing for labor. During this class, we teach you some very easy-to-do at-home daily activities that can help lengthen and soften the ligaments and muscles that attach to the pelvis. By practicing these daily during pregnancy, the baby is able to find more room to move into an optimal birthing position. At the same time, more comfort is found in the pregnant body, especially in those last weeks and months when your belly is so big and your baby is making daily life even more challenging! Issues like sciatica, back pain, tightness, and soreness are often decreased by those who use these techniques daily.
We’ll also prepare you and your support person to notice how your body works in labor and how your baby moves through the pelvis in order to get born. When labor stalls or is going on a long time, when the baby is not in a great position for birth, when there is a lot of back pain or pain in one area of the body, etc., these can be “invitations to act,” which means there are specific techniques we can use — even during labor! — to continue to help the body soften and lengthen and to help your baby find that space in the pelvis!
Class size is limited to ensure your instructors are able to work with each person individually and to help partners learn to support these techniques with confidence, both during pregnancy and in labor. Practicing Spinning Babies® during pregnancy can become a wonderful and simple way to help your partner connect with you, your pregnancy, and your baby. And it certainly helps you connect with yourself. At the end of it all, it’s about love.
To learn more about the stages of labor, common interventions, advocacy skills, other types of comfort support for labor, and to build community with others on the same journey, please join us for our Silver Creek Birth Class in Silverton!
Time commitment: 3 hours
Cost: $147 per pregnant person and their support person
Location: Mt Angel Wellness, Mount Angel OR
Who is this class for: Pregnant individuals after the first trimester, and the earlier the better so you can build a daily practice that facilitates ease and comfort in pregnancy and birth!
